地球生灵》（又名 原野中的一生）由BBC Earth和Magic Light共同制作出品。电影通过一系列生动且富有想象力的故事，捕捉所有生物从出生的那一刻直到完成传承后代的重要使命，揭示了地球上生物生命周期的紧密联系，其中有许多片段是从未曾在电影中出现过的。　　本片由BBC博物学部门（BBC Natural History Unit）的Michael Gunton和Martha Holmes执导，也是演员丹尼尔·克雷格首次为纪录片进行配音，电影特地使用了浅显易懂的语言以便儿童理解。克雷格表示，自己非常有幸参与到这部电影当中，BBC的博物学部门证明了多年来他们拍摄纪录片的水平始终无人能出其右。　　幕后制作　　电影的制作和后期耗时四年多，内容精编自长达上万个小时的拍摄镜头，展现了令人叹为观止的生物，它们时而勇猛、奇怪，时而可爱、美丽，又会让你在不经意中忍俊不禁。电影创造了很多个“首次”的拍摄纪录，很多动物是第一次出现在电影中，或是某种行为第一次被拍摄纪录，抑或是使用一种新的拍摄技巧令熟悉的场景看起来完全不一样。　　《地球生灵》9月1日在日本公映，根据MOJO的票房数据，一共上映310块屏幕，截至9月4日四天时间收获454万美元票房，首周末成绩荣登日本票房榜冠军。根据日本媒体的数据，这部纪录片在最初上映的四天内的动员人数达到29万9391人。　　在宣传方面，日本发行方艾回为了这部纪录片也可以说是不惜余力。在日版中充当叙述者角色的为松本幸四郎与松隆子两父女，于9月5日也上了日本天团SMAP主持的王牌综艺节目《Smap x Smap》。　　而在电影的日版主题曲方面，音乐天团Mr.Children演唱的《苏生》同样是话题十足。
